JUROR: PHILIP J. CARROLL is a professional artist, curator, lecturer and teacher who has been exhibiting nationally for over 23 years. He travels regularly to speak about painting to organizations and lectures on a yearly basis for the New Jersey State Council on the Arts about “Making a Living as an Artist”, at The Carnegie Library Center in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He teaches water color for Perkins Center for the Arts, Moorestown, N.J. and for Mainline Art Center in Haverford, Pa. He has been a co curator for the Perkins Center Gallery annex in Collingswood, N.J. since 2005. His most recent group exhibitions include Des Champs Gallery in Lambertville, N.J., Artists House Gallery, Philadelphia, Pa., Fusion Gallery, Collingswood, N.J. and Butler Institute of Art Annual Exhibition. In 2006 he was honored with a one person exhibition at the Monmouth Museum, Lincroft, N.J. His works can be found in the collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, Pa., Price Water House, Philadelphia, Pa., McGraw Hill, New York, N.Y., Peco Energy, Morton, Pa., and Jackson National Life, Okemos, Michigan but to name a few. A 1983 graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of The Fine Arts, Philadelphia, Pa. Mr. Carroll also studied art history at The University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pa.

MEDIA: Artists may submit up to three entries in any two or three dimensional media including photography. Entry must not exceed 60” in any direction. (Including framing) Total weight must not exceed 200 pounds. All entries must be ready for exhibition. Work must have been created in the past three years. Works previously accepted in past Annuals or History Through Art Exhibits are not eligible. Works exhibited within 50 miles of Ligonier not eligible.

INSURANCE AND LIABILITY: All works accepted for inclusion in the Greater Latrobe School District (GLSD) Exhibition and Gala will be insured by the GLSD. All works accepted and delivered early to Greater Latrobe High School (including any works purchased by the GLSD) will be insured, stored and delivered to SAMA on the delivery dates stipulated in this prospectus. All work will be insured by the the Southern Alleghenies Museum while in the Museum. Neither the Southwestern Pennsylvania Council for the Arts, Inc., the Greater Latrobe School District nor the Southern Alleghenies Museum is responsible for any damage to work during transit (except for works in transit from Greater Latrobe High School to SAMA delivered by representative of the GLSD.)

ELIGIBILITY: This is an open, juried competition for works in all media. All work must be original (not conceived or executed in a workshop or class setting with instructor supervision.) Open to artist 18 or older residing in Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Bedford, Blair, Butler, Cambria, Clarion, Clearfield, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, Mercer, Somerset, Venango, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

ENTRY FEES: A $30.00 non-refundable entry fee (US funds only) must accompany entries. Make checks payable to: SPCA.

SALE OF WORK: Artists will be notified of any work sold. SPCArts will retain 25% commission on any works purchased by the GLSD. For works

 

accepted into SAMA, the museum charges 20% commission. A 20% commission will be retained by the Southwestern Pennsylvania Council for the Arts. Artists should take the total 40% commission into consideration in pricing their work for sale at SAMA. Work will not be released before the 13th Annual Exhibition closes. ACCEPTED ENTRIES: All 2D entries must be suitably framed and wired for hanging. All accepted works must be ready to install. Inadequate framing/construction results in disqualification for exhibit and ineligibility for insurance coverage. A Southwestern Pennsylvania Council for the Arts or the Southern Alleghenies Museum representative will decide if work is suitable for exhibition. Juror Notification Cards will be sent October 1, 2008. Notices for works accepted for inclusion in the GLSD Exhibition and Gala will be sent with Juror Notification Cards.

DELIVERY OF ARTWORK, SAMA: Work accepted for inclusion in the SPCArts 12th Annual Exhibition must be delivered to the Southern Alleghenies Museum, Ligonier, Pennsylvania on Thursday & Friday, November 13 & 14, 2008 from 10 am to 5 pm and on Saturday November 15, 2008 from 1-5pm.. (closed Sunday, Nov 16) All artwork must remain on display throughout the exhibition (February 14, 2009.)

PICK UP ALL WORKS: Pick-up all works at the Southern Alleghenies Museum at Ligonier Valley Wednesday thru Friday, February 18-20, 2009 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Saturday, February 21, 2009, 1-5 p.m.

LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS
Consideration for Inclusion

Artists accepted into SPCArts’ 13th Annual Exhibition have an opportunity to have their works considered for possible inclusion in the Greater Latrobe School District Collection and the Southmoreland School District Collection. Check the box on the entry form to indicate your desire to participate in the aformentioned exhibitions/galas held annually in the high schools to consider work for inclusion in the these permanent collections.

DELIVERY OF ARTWORK, GLSD: Work accepted for inclusion in the GLSD Exhibition must be delivered to the Greater Latrobe High School, Center for Student Creativity, 131 High School Road. Latrobe PA on Sunday, October 12, 2008 from 2-4 p.m. or Monday, October 13, 2008 from 2:30-5 p.m. or by appointment, 724.539.4220. Work will remain on display at the high school from October 13 through the date of the GALA, November 6, 2008. All works will be stored by GLSD and delivered to SAMA on the delivery dates stipulated in this prospectus under DELIVERY OF ARTWORK, SAMA. (call for directions 724-539-4225)

SOUTHMORELAND SCHOOL DISTRICT: Students will consider works hanging at SAMA for inclusion in their Gala/Collection. Artist indicating an interest will be notified if accepted.Questions regarding Local School Collections and Galas, call 724-238-6369.
